Shaping Stories – Growing Futures
Irini Gonou
Visual Artist
Irini Gonou, known for her exploration of healing and protection through ancient cultural traditions, presented a lecture tracing the origins of her Morus project. Inspired by stories of her father’s silkworm farming and the relationship between the silkworm, the mulberry tree, and human culture, the project aimed to raise awareness through artistic, social, cultural, and ethical lenses. This collaborative initiative sought to deepen understanding of these interconnections and to express them through creative practice. Gonou’s work has been exhibited internationally across Greece, Cyprus, France, Germany, the UK, Belgium, the USA, Qatar, Norway, and Sweden. Her recent focus centered on the healing and protective power of the written word and the role of art as a means of contemplation and interconnectedness in contemporary society. Beyond her artistic practice, she conducted educational seminars on Mediterranean scripts and facilitated interactive art workshops, promoting creativity, craft heritage, and a mindful, intercultural approach to art-making.
